Thermal and Mechanical Non-Equilibrium Effects on Turbulent Flows

  1. Experimental and theoretical studies on basic fluid dynamic processes suggest there are strong interactions between thermal non-equilibrium (TNE) and turbulence. This project aims at both advancing our understanding of the effect of thermal and mechanical non-equilibrium on compressible turbulence and proposing new technological advances in strategies to generate and control turbulence.

  2. Chemical dynamics simulations are performed to obtain an accurate atomic-level description of energy transfer dynamics. This knowledge could be applied to undestand experimental findings of TNE and turbulence. Further meso-scale models for the TNE and turbulence, of high accuracy, could be predicted.
